Editorial Policy

Last reviewed: October 8, 2026

This policy explains how Shoals Roofing Directory builds, maintains, and presents listings for roofing companies, gutter specialists, and exterior contractors in Lauderdale and Colbert counties, Alabama — and how paid featured placement stays separate from editorial coverage. We wrote it because a directory is only useful if you know exactly how it was put together.

Who We Are

Shoals Roofing Directory is an independent local directory published in the Tennessee Valley. We are not a roofing company, a franchise, or a national lead-generation service. We do not sell homeowner information to contractors, and contractors do not pay to appear in the base directory.

The directory is researched, written, and maintained by the Shoals Roofing Directory Editorial Team, with selective manual enrichment of listings from company websites and other public sources. Not every listing receives that enrichment, and it never changes where a business appears in our neutral order.

What We Publish

  • Directory listings for roofing, gutter, and exterior contractors serving Lauderdale County (Florence, Killen, Rogersville, Lexington, Waterloo, Anderson, St. Florian, Cloverdale) and Colbert County (Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, Tuscumbia, Cherokee, Leighton, Littleville).
  • Business details drawn from public sources: company name, phone, address, website, hours, services, service area, and photos and ratings as they appear publicly on Google.
  • Guides and resource pages written for Shoals homeowners — for example, what to look for after a hailstorm or how to read a roofing estimate.

How Listings Are Added and Kept Current

Our process is described in full on the methodology page. In short:

  1. We identify candidate businesses from public Google Business Profile data for the two counties.
  2. We deduplicate entries, filter out companies that do not actually serve Lauderdale or Colbert County, and capture public photos, ratings, and review counts.
  3. We run structural listing checks — phone connects, address is consistent, website loads — and record the date of the last check.
  4. Business owners can claim or correct their listing at any time, free of charge, via our contact page.

What “Listing Checked” Means Here

We want to be precise about this, because “verified” is an overused word. A “listing checked” date means we ran structural checks: the phone number worked, the address was consistent with public records, and the website loaded at the time of the check. It does notmean we inspected the company's work, interviewed customers, confirmed licensing or insurance, or endorse the business in any way. Where a business owner has claimed their listing and we confirmed their identity, the listing carries an owner-verified badge. Owner verification confirms who submitted the information — not the quality of the work. Homeowners should always do their own due diligence, including checking Alabama licensing and insurance certificates, before hiring a contractor.

Independence From Paid Placement

Local companies can purchase clearly labeled featured or spotlight placements. Payment never determines whether a business qualifies for a listing, what we write about it, or its position in the neutral alphabetical order that all non-featured listings follow. Guides and articles are planned and written before any placement is sold against them, and no advertiser reviews or approves editorial content. Full details are in our advertising disclosure.

Corrections

If any listing detail is wrong — a phone number, an address, a service list — we want to know. Email us through the contact page and we will correct or remove the information promptly. Corrections are made regardless of whether a business advertises with us.

Ownership of This Directory

Shoals Roofing Directory is locally owned and operated. If the publisher ever has a financial relationship with a listed company, it will be disclosed on the listing and on the advertising disclosure page.
